I received a copy of the constitution the other day, and as I started to read it, I found the first words to be very well conceived. The Preamble of the United States Constitution is a powerful and enduring statement of purpose. It encapsulates the fundamental principles that our nation's founders envisioned, and it continues to guide us today. Here is what it says and it’s great to read this again 🎓:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." 🇺🇸

Because of our former president’s indictments and enablers in congress, it is important to come back to our nation’s core values. What better to articulate the framers' vision of a perfect union, by established justice, and the securing of the blessings of liberty than The Preamble of the United States Constitution. Here are the Preamble's key components and what they signify:

A More Perfect Union: The opening phrase, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union," makes clear the hope and aspiration to create a stronger, more unified government than the one stated in the declaration of independence from Great Britain. Over the years, this principle has inspired us to overcome differences, challenges, and divisions in the quest for a more perfect union. The Bill of Rights is a good example of this in action. ☮️

2. Establish Justice: "Establish justice" signifies the importance of a fair and impartial legal system. It represents the belief that the rule of law should apply equally to all citizens. It serves as a reminder that the Constitution is a bulwark against tyranny and an instrument for protecting the rights and freedoms of individuals. This is part of the reason for the separation of Church and State to keep an unbiased legal system. 💼

3. Domestic Tranquility: The phrase "insure domestic Tranquility" reminds us of the nation’s founders desire to prevent internal strife and conflicts. It speaks to the importance of peace and stability within the nation, fostering an environment where citizens can live their lives in security and harmony. This principle highlights the government's role in maintaining social order. Having a good balance in our government is also important to maintaining fair and honest debate on matters that affect us all. 🧘♀️

4. Promote the General Welfare: "Promote the general Welfare" acknowledges the government's duty to address the well-being of its citizens. It encourages policies and actions that contribute to the common good, such as providing infrastructure, healthcare, and social safety nets. This concept reflects the idea that the government is a vehicle for improving the overall quality of life for its people. Two of the pillars of welfare in the last 90 years are the establishment of Social Security and Medicare. 🚑

Secure the Blessings of Liberty: The final phrase, "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity," speaks to the framers' commitment to preserving the freedoms and rights that are the foundation of our democracy. It recognizes that liberty is not only a birthright but a responsibility, as it must be safeguarded for future generations. This principle is a testament to the enduring nature of our Constitution. 🕯

I feel the Preamble of the Constitution serves as a timeless reminder of the principles upon which the United States was founded. It encapsulates the vision of our nation that seeks to perfect its union, establish justice, maintain domestic tranquility, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for all its citizens. These principles continue to guide us in our pursuit of a more just, equitable, and harmonious society, as they have for over two centuries. The challenges to our constitution in the previous years from 2020 to now have proved it's worth. Holding to justice for all will make sure that nobody is above the law of this land, not even former presidents.
