My Journey with Qigong:
A Path to Wellness and Balance
As I sit here, reflecting on the past 18 years of my life, one thing stands out as a constant source of strength, balance, and vitality: Qigong. What began as a curiosity has transformed into a profound practice that has significantly improved my vital energy, mental health, and sleep quality. Moreover, despite the lack of statistical significance in some studies, Qigong and its sister practice, Tai Chi, have undeniably had positive effects on my anxiety, stress levels, depressive symptoms, and overall quality of life. In 2018, my journey with Qigong took me to China, the birthplace of this ancient art, where I delved deeper into its roots and teachings, including visiting the majestic Wudang Mountain, where the Lao Tsu wrote the Tao Te Ching.
The Beginning of a Journey
Eighteen years ago, I stumbled upon the world of Qigong by designing a flyer for a Qigong class for a good friend named, Dennis Cole. Dennis was teaching a class on Soaring Crane Qigong. Intrigued by its promises of health and wellbeing through gentle movements, controlled breathing, and meditation, I decided to give it a try. Little did I know then that this decision would lead me on a transformative path of self-discovery and healing. I not only took Deninis’s class but went on to be certified as a teacher in both Soaring Crane Qigong and Awakening Light Gong.
Soaring Crane Qigong: A Foundation of Strength
My journey began with Soaring Crane Qigong, a graceful form of Qigong that emphasizes flowing movements and deep, mindful breathing. As I immersed myself in this practice, I noticed subtle yet profound changes in my energy levels. stress and some anxiety related to life, which had been part of my life struggles, started to lift. I found myself feeling more awake, alive, and ready to take on the day with renewed vigor.
Awakening Light Gong: Illuminating the Path
The next addition to my Qigong repertoire has been Awakening Light Gong. This form, as its name suggests, has been instrumental in illuminating my path towards greater wellbeing. Its emphasis on awakening the light within us resonated deeply with me, guiding me towards a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me. There is also a feeling of connection to the Univers and ancestors before me who built the path that I am on now.
Essence Qigong: Nurturing the Inner Self
As my journey with Qigong continued, I delved deeper into the practice with Essence Qigong. I learned this form of Qigong taught by Professor Chen, in China in 2018. This form focuses on cultivating the essence of life energy within us, promoting inner harmony and balance. Through its gentle movements and meditative elements, Essence Qigong became a sanctuary for my mind and soul. I found myself experiencing moments of profound peace and clarity, even amidst life’s challenges. While I was in China and practicing this form I was in a constant state of mindfulness, peace, and loving kindness throughout our travels.
A Journey to the Birthplace of Qigong
In 2018, my passion for Qigong took me on a pilgrimage to China, the ancient land where this practice originated. This journey was a dream come true, as I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the rich history and culture of Qigong. I attended lectures, participated in workshops, and visited sacred sites such as Wudang Mountain, where the Tao Te Ching was written.
The Impact on my energy levels and Sleep Quality
Through my years of practicing Qigong, I have experienced a profound transformation in my energy, happiness, and sleep quality. What was once a constant battle with tiredness because of poor sleep and stress has evolved into a sense of vitality and aliveness. My sleep has become more restful and rejuvenating, allowing me to wake up each morning feeling refreshed and ready to embrace the day.
Beyond Physical Benefits: Mental and Emotional Wellbeing
While the physical benefits of Qigong are undeniable, its impact on my mental and emotional wellbeing has been equally significant. Despite the challenges life throws my way, I have found a sense of calm and resilience through my practice. Anxiety no longer holds me captive, stress no longer overwhelms me, and depressive thoughts no longer linger. Qigong has become my anchor, grounding me in moments of turmoil and lifting me up in moments of joy.
